The Township of Woolwich has contracted Hetek Solutions Inc. to proactively engage in leak detection of the water metallic mains in Breslau, Elmira, and St. Jacobs. Finding water main breaks and quickly repairing them can save the Township thousands of dollars in wasted drinking water.
What’s it about?
As part of the Woolwich Township Greening Initiative, the Township and Trees for Woolwich are working to increase tree cover across the Township. To support this initiative, the Township and Trees for Woolwich volunteers will be hosting 2 tree giveaways this fall. Residents are asked to bring identification to show they reside in Woolwich Township.

Garlic Mustard is an invasive plant to be on the look-out for this spring in Woolwich. It is a non-native plant that often outcompetes our native plant life. Manual removal methods include: cutting plants before they set seed or pulling the plants and discarding to waste -- not compost to avoid seed spreading. Visit Ontario Invasive Plants Council website for information about Garlic Mustard and methods to control it.
Gypsy moth populations are on the rise again in Waterloo Region this year resulting in tree defoliation, especially oak, beech, birch and spruce in urban as well as forested areas. Gypsy moth caterpillar defoliation can result in tree stress and mortality. Background information can be found on the Pelham Niagara webpage.
