Woolwich Township Soars to #35 on Globe and Mail’s ‘Canada’s Most Livable Cities’ List

Woolwich, ONWoolwich Township has made an impressive leap on the 2024 Globe and Mail Canada’s Most Livable Cities list, climbing 24 spots to secure the 35th position among 448 communities evaluated nationwide. The annual ranking celebrates communities offering exceptional quality of life, and Woolwich’s upward trajectory is a testament to its growing appeal as a place to play, live, work, and thrive.

The Globe and Mail bases its rankings on 50 variables across 10 categories, including housing, health care, safety, amenities, and transportation. This year, enhanced weightings reflected survey feedback from over 300 Canadians, emphasizing factors like amenities and community vitality as priorities when choosing a place to call home.

“We are thrilled to see Woolwich recognized as one of Canada’s most livable communities,” said Woolwich Mayor Sandy Shantz. “Our township’s commitment to fostering a safe, welcoming environment with accessible services and thriving businesses has helped us stand out on the national stage.”

Woolwich’s strong sense of community, access to nature, and focus on sustainable development were highlighted as key contributors to its rise in the rankings. Strategic investments in infrastructure, transportation, and amenities have further enhanced the township’s appeal, making it a magnet for families, professionals, and retirees alike.

The Globe and Mail list offers a holistic view of community livability across Canada, with larger cities like Calgary (#7) and Vancouver (#12) earning spots in the top tier. North Vancouver took the top honours this year, followed by other BC cities dominating the top 10. Woolwich joins other high-ranking Ontario communities like Oakville (#10) and Guelph (#21) as a standout for livability in the province.

“Woolwich’s rise in the rankings reflects the hard work of local businesses, organizations, Township staff and residents,” added Woolwich’s Chief Administrative Officer David Brenneman. “As we continue to grow, we remain committed to preserving what makes Woolwich special while meeting the evolving needs of our community.”

Woolwich’s inclusion among Canada’s most livable cities signals its growing reputation as a destination of choice in Ontario and across the country.  Their commitment to community connection through the Play, Live, Work model ensures that every community member has the opportunity to live a vibrant, fulfilling life.
