Woolwich Township launches their first Climate Conversation Event Series!
Woolwich, ON – Woolwich Township’s Climate Action Initiative will be launching a “Talk to an Owner” event series where interested parties can gain first-hand knowledge from electric car, electric bike, and cargo bike owners. The first event in the series will be held on Saturday, September 24th, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Canadian Tire in Elmira (325 Arthur Street South).
“Woolwich Council has committed annually towards climate action initiatives to support Council’s vision of a sustainable community. Through collaboration, Woolwich looks to establish opportunities to further promote good environmental stewardship”, said Mayor Sandy Shantz.
In collaboration with the Waterloo Region Electric Vehicle Association WREVA and the Bicycle Mayor of Waterloo, Talk to an Owner will provide opportunities to ask the questions one might hesitate to ask of salespersons. Items such as, the long-distance travel experiences of early adopters, seeing the actual capacity of cargo spaces, getting the low-down on maintenance, discovering the ins-and-outs of charging, and most importantly, how long do those batteries really last?
"I bought a Chevy Bolt in 2018. Leaping into the deep end, I made a 4,200 km trip that same year. I can hardly describe the feeling of cruising along at highway speeds, knowing there were no tailpipe emissions. I could feel the relief and the thrill. I paid $13.46 for electricity once; the rest of the charges were free, subsidized by stores, EV manufacturers, or municipalities,” said Sandra Bray, resident, and electric vehicle owner.
Woolwich Township’s Climate Action Initiative has designed a calendar of events to support residents as we journey together into a carbon neutral future. Newer technologies in electric and active transportation can be daunting, however, we hope that first-hand conversations with experienced owners will support future clean transportation purchase choices.
