Woolwich Township Allocates COVID-19 Relief Funds
Woolwich, ON – Over a year ago, the Province of Ontario first declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus, COVID-19 pandemic. The impacts of this virus have been felt not only in Ontario, but across Canada and the world. With Ontario hopefully climbing out of yet another wave of this pandemic many community support agencies, service groups, and other local non-for-profit organizations have struggled to continue to provide the services and level of support that is truly needed for Woolwich residents.
Through the 2021 Budget, Council included 0.5% or $56,000 to be used to set-up a COVID-19 Relief Fund to be used to assist those in need. Council authorized a submission process for Woolwich community support organizations, community service groups, and other non-for-profit community groups that serve the residents of Woolwich, to access funds from Woolwich’s COVID-19 Relief Fund to assist with the financial and/or delivery of service pressures they have experienced though the COVID-19 pandemic.
The process approved by Council was for community support organizations interested in accessing funding through the COVID-19 Relief Fund, through the submission of a proposal outlining how the pandemic has financially impacted them and their ability to serve their clientele, the amount of funding they are requesting, and to clearly demonstrate that a significant majority of the clientele they serve are based in Woolwich.
Woolwich Council is please to announce the allocation of the following COVID Relief Funds to the following organizations:
- Elmira Theatre Company - $10,400
- Kin Club of Woolwich - $2,500
- Woolwich Community Health Centre - $11,000
- Woolwich Gymnastics Club - $6,000
- Woolwich Seniors Association - $11,000 – (Council approved two allocations for the Woolwich Seniors Association $5,000 through this round and $6,000 previously approved earlier this year)
“Our community support agencies, service groups, and other local non-for-profit organizations have been hit hard by COVID-19, and we're here for them”, said Mayor Sandy Shantz. “As we approach the end of this pandemic, we are working with these organizations to provide financial relief and allow them to continue to contribute to the vibrant community that is synonymous with Woolwich Township.”
Woolwich Township Council recognizes and greatly appreciates the impact and involvement these groups have in our community. The financial assistance provided by Council will help the community on the road to recovery and help these local organizations provide Woolwich Township residents with much needed support and care.
