Waterloo Region Municipalities are considering high-performance development standards

Waterloo Region Municipalities are considering high-performance development standards

Waterloo Region Municipalities across Waterloo Region are working together to create consistent best practice standards for new residential, industrial, commercial, and institutional developments. Already implemented in many other communities (i.e. Toronto, Halton Hills, Whitby, Mississauga), these high-performance development standards will be developed through technical analysis and public engagement. Such standards will help to ensure that all new buildings in our growing region are energy efficient, affordable, and able to withstand extreme weather.

These standards will support a more sustainable and resilient community through measures like:

  • Water efficiency
  • Transition to low-carbon development
  • Electric vehicle parking and charging
  • Tree planting

This next round of  public engagement kicks off this February with a series of community sessions being held across the region, under the leadership of WR Community Energy. In addition to these in-person sessions, information and feedback opportunities can be found on the project’s Engage page.
