Township of Woolwich and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 469 Collaborate on new Monuments at the Elmira Cenotaph
Woolwich, ON – The Elmira Cenotaph, located in Memorial Park, recently saw the installation of two new monuments which commemorates Afghanistan Veterans and Peacekeepers. The installation of these monuments was done through joint funding; with the funding from the Royal Canadian Legion coming from their Poppy Campaign donations.
“Through collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 469 we have given our community a visual reminder of the resilience and courage of our servicemen and women,” said Mayor Sandy Shantz. “We continue to be committed to preserving our history and always Remembering.”
A rededication ceremony for the cenotaph will be held at the Remembrance Day service, at Memorial Park on Sunday, November 10th, 2024. The service will begin at 3:00 p.m.
“As a Veteran myself; of multiple tours overseas, it gives me great pride to see these two new monuments in place at our cenotaph, for generations to come,” said Richard Sheppard, Veterans Service Officer at Branch 469. “May they be a constant reminder of the sacrifices of our brave men and women of the Canadian Forces; We Will Remember!”
Media representatives and the general public are invited to attend the rededication ceremony in November.
