Rural Townships Issue Full Fire Ban – Effective Immediately

Waterloo Region – In an effort to reduce the increased fire risk caused by continuing dry and hot weather, a full fire ban has been issued in the Townships of North Dumfries, Wellesley, Wilmot and Woolwich.

The ban will begin effective immediately and will remain in effect until further notice; this ban includes all open burns and all recreational fires (including campgrounds). Conditions are extremely dry, and all reasonable precautions should be taken to prevent fire spread.  Fines are in place for those found to be in violation of the ban.  Barbecues are still permitted.

Please be cautious, attentive, and have extinguishing agents available at all times. With a lack of rain in the forecast for the next period of time, this temporary ban will help keep our townships’ safe.

Remember to always call 9-1-1 to report a fire.
