Provincial plan to safely reopen Waterloo Region

Waterloo Region – The Government of Ontario has announced it will move the province into Step One of its Roadmap to Reopen at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 11, 2021.

The Government of Ontario referenced the ongoing success of Team Ontario’s vaccine rollout and the ongoing improvements in public health trends as reasons for moving to Step 1 this Friday.

“It is important to continue to practice public health measures, especially avoiding close contact with people you don’t live with, as we look towards Step One of reopening Ontario,” said Dr. Julie Emili, Associate Medical Officer of Health.

“A cautious and gradual approach to reopening, combined with public health measures and getting vaccinated when it’s your turn, will help keep our community moving in the right direction and help stop the spread of COVID-19.”

As restrictions still remain in place, this may present hardships for our community.

Residents are reminded to be mindful of feelings of isolation. If you or someone you know needs help, remember that local mental health support is available.

Local, professional mental health support is available from Here 24/7 at 1-844-437-3247.

Local municipalities will issue details about their specific reopening plans in the coming days.
