Notice of Proposed Work on Elmira Drain 1

Elmira Drain #1 was constructed in 1909 to provide drainage to a portion of Elmira and farm properties in Woolwich, Wellesley and Mapleton Townships. A map of the project is below. Under the Drainage Act, the Township is required to maintain the drain and charge costs to benefiting property owners. Woolwich Township has led maintenance projects in 1955, 1971 and 1984.

An engineer has written a report proposing repairs and improvements to Elmira Drain #1. The report will be published online on February 19, 2021 or can be accessed in advance by contacting the Deputy Clerk. Council will consider the recommendations in the report at a virtual pubilc meeting on February 23, 2021. All property owners in the affected area will be sent notice of the meeting and options to participate in the meeting.

For property owners who have been assessed individually by the engineer for more than $100, a copy of the engineer's report will be included with the notice. For property owners that have been assessed as a block, an average estimated assessment will be included in the notice. If Council approves the project, all affected property owners will be sent an invoice when the project is complete for their portion of the final amount.
