Freedom of Information
The Township of Woolwich is required to follow the rules set out in the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). The purpose of MFIPPA is to ensure that the public has a right to access the information kept by the municipality and to also ensure that personal information kept by the municipality is kept private.
MFIPPA states that:
- Any member of the public may request to view or obtain copies of general records and information held by the Township;
- Any member of the public may request to view, copy or make corrections to information about themselves held by the Township;
- The Township must protect personal information and privacy;
- Limited and specific circumstances apply where information may need to be withheld from viewing and access.
Making a Freedom of Information Request
Woolwich Township makes a lot information available to the public without requiring a formal freedom of information request. If you are looking for information, first try contacting the department or speak to the Deputy Clerk for any questions about making a request.
If a formal Freedom of Information request is needed, please complete the Freedom of Information Request form and submit it to the Township along with the $5 application fee. We accept payment:
- submit the request and pay online ($1.50 service fee)
- at the Township Administration Office by cash, debit or cheque made payable to the Township of Woolwich
- by depositing cash or a cheque in the secure drop box, located on the Maple Street side of the Administration Building
- by sending a cheque by mail, quoting the ticket number.
Once we receive your request and the application fee, we will contact you within 30 days and follow all processes under MFIPPA. Please note, there may be additional fees to process your request. If we expect processing fees to be more than $25, we will provide you an estimate and you may choose to continue with your request, withdraw your request or modify your request to reduce costs. A 50% deposit will be required if the estimate is $100 or more.
Freedom of Information Request Reviews
Freedom of information requests may be reviewed by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario if you believe the response is not consistent with MFIPPA.
